    Hey pertaining to this method, is there a way we could add "Remainder Dimensions" and "Typical Dimensions: to a floor? by inputting specific values for the remainder and typical numbers?

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 7 днів тому

      Yes you could format the parameter if its a string, or divide the whole value and remainder into two parameters for each direction. Just some simple maths really, divide the size by the increment, round down/floor that and multiply by the increment to get the rounded size, and then use remainder/modulo node to find the remainder of that division.

      I've just tested using Crumple 2024.4.3 (latest version) and it seems to work for me. The expected list structure is important to have right, that which a finishboundary nodes returns (list of lists of curves). If you google 'Aussie BIM Guru' github it will likely be the first page, I haven't tested many of my scripts in higher versions personally - not enough time to maintain them these days.

    Hi Gavin, thanks for the update, I’ve followed along and built the graph as per your tutorial, originally it ran fine without errors. However, now it runs all nodes without errors but the Floors.Create node from your custom Crumple package is reporting null values and not generating the floor types in my model. Perhaps you can assist?

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 6 днів тому

      It will likely pertain to list length/structure. I've tested feeding in the finishboundary node output to a floor.create node and it's working on my side using Crumple 2024.4.3 version. If the list structure differs then the node wont work generally.

      Do you mean model in place as a sweep? That's many extra steps if you want to make a system like this work at scale. It would work for maybe 1 or 2 units but once you have many they would all be disconnected as families from each other, bad practice if this happens.

    Very insightful video! I am an architect who will be moving into a BIM / computational design specialist role with only a few years of industry experience. Seeing that youre in a similar position now, I wanted to ask which of your experiences in the video are still true for you now and what is different? And what advice can you offer to someone transitioning from an architect role to something workflow management focused? Cheers!

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 6 днів тому

      Many of these challenges still hold very much true, although the more complex nature of the role and computation means some of the social aspects are more challenging whilst it’s easier to pursue more complex and well-paid opportunities as the role is more unique vs BIM management generally. I would say the main change is that I’m not sure that BIM alone = bright future anymore. The industry just sees it as something we do normally now, whereas computation lets you go well beyond BIM and software limitations. Early prevention is also the name of the game, developing tools and software means you must be well ahead of the curve and company status quo. Isolation is still a huge challenge, as even fewer people understand and appreciate computation (which includes most BIM ‘experts’ in my experience). Communicating clearly and articulating how you will add business value are very important to combat this, you need to try to be understood or approachable at least. The key to transitioning is to remember the core business service is architecture - software and process must improve and appreciate this at all times. Listen to the company carefully, but be clear with what you want and need of the firm similarly.

    Do you have any ideas on how we can populate the 'To Room' parameter for doors when the rooms are located in a linked model?

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 18 днів тому

      Yes for that I generally instead take the point in front of the door and use this RevitAPI method to work through all rooms in each linked model/phase. It's much more difficult but possible nonetheless: www.revitapidocs.com/2023/7dbcac93-ec82-5f60-4a54-a427f3e1cc1e.htm

    • @AussieBIMGuru

      @@ahmademad7192 so in that case your doors will need to be modelled in a consistent direction in the family editor. If you model your doors pointing different ways Revit has no way to understand that. Thanks for the explanation about data structures in Dynamo! In Grasshopper you would simply "graft" the list of elements to put each element in its own list. In this way, "all parameters" are assigned to each "element list" and the appropriate "value list" is also assigned to the respective "element list" (for all element lists). The procedure in Dynamo seems a bit more complicated to me, but understandable. But once I have more experience in Dynamo, I might find the approach in Dynamo better. We'll see :D In Grasshopper there are also separate components like "Graft". I also saw a "Flatten" component in Dynamo, like in Grasshopper. This way we can inspect the changed list structure and see if it is compatible before using it as input.

    • @yeyeshua
      @yeyeshua 19 днів тому

      Ah, now I understand. L1 at input "element" is the counterpart to "Graft" in Grasshopper. Then we set L2 at "parameterName" to use the entire list and L2 at "value" to use the individual associated lists. The display below the lists is very helpful for this, showing which lists are on which levels (@L3 @L2 @L1). At first I didn't know whether L1 starts at the beginning or at the end of the data tree. A little different than in Grasshopper, because in Grasshopper you can change the list structure and make it compatible and inspect it before using it as input, but this is now understandable in Dynamo. Now it's fun to work with!

      @AussieBIMGuru 10 днів тому

      Yes graft and level 2 on 1 are quite similar. Personally i much prefer working with lists if im trying to align data, as much as i do like the path mapper component! Trees are very beneficial for geometry and speed, but lists are often easier to work through predictably. Trade offs.

    Is there any way to use dynamo to select overlapping or intersecting tags? A tutorial would be incredibly useful

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 24 дні тому

      Generally out of time for new videos currently unfortunately. The easiest method would be to use their boundingbox and run intersection checks between them I believe. Try dynamo forums if stuck as im sure its been asked there before also.

    Please, what about runing dynamo player from the pushbutton script?🙏

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 24 дні тому

      Not possible as far as I know, as the Dynamo app handles that part of the program. You can get a script to run the command tro launch dynamo player as an app, but not get the script you run into the button in pyrevit specifrically.

    Good day Gavin,, I dont know if you have sometime to update your Package to Dynamo 3.0 but it would be great,, and you know what would be greater? teach us how migrate it from .NET 4.8 to .NET8 using c# :) anyways thank you and great video!

      @AussieBIMGuru 26 днів тому

      Unfortunately I am still very basic with C# so no idea what that involves at this point, my package is 100% written in python for now. My package should generally work in dynamo 3 except for excel and interface nodes that pythonne6 supports, which dynamo team should hopefully fix by revit 2026.

    Hi ABG, I¨ve been looking for a way to tag rooms in section views with dynamo... any ideas? I´m able to get the rooms and desired tag position ,but none of the place tag nodes i´ve tried seems to do the job... i think they are intended for plan views only or for annotation tags, but not for room tags in section views... please your advice!

      Try getting the view's sketch plane (clockwork/genius loci) can do this, convert to plane, and get the closest points on that plane instead using geometry.closestpoint. i think that should hopefully work.

    Hello guys, I keep geting this message: ArgumentException: Boundary in boundary should represent one closed curve loop without self intersections, consisting of non-zero length straight lines in a plane parallel to the view plane. Parameter name: boundary at Autodesk.Revit.DB.ViewCropRegionShapeManager.SetCropShape(CurveLoopboundary) ['File "<string>", line 60, in cropPlanView '] do you guys have an idea how to solve this?

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 28 днів тому

      This warning commonly relates to rooms with messier boundaries, particularly if any edges are bound through almost being closed. Check which of the rooms cause the error and that might reveal a potential cause.

      Generally not so much as youd need to work with material properties and incident raybouncing. For that I'd suggest looking into Honeybee and Ladybug tools for Grasshopper.

      Yes the Orchid package can do this and Crumple has some nodes needed to do this but honestly the best way is to write it in Python or C# using Revit API as it's a very custom/complex workflow to achieve in nodes alone.
